Voluminous
You share va-va-voom maestro Oribe’s motto “Bigger is better.” For sexy, “modern” volume, follow his supermodel-tested-and-approved prescription: After applying a volumizing spray, blow-dry hair using a round brush, pulling hair upward from the root or hairspray. While hair is still warm, wrap sections around large Velcro curlers and allow it to cool. Remove rollers, tease around the root for added height, and comb through with your fingers to create a soft finish. Refresh as needed with a dry shampoo such as Tresemmé Fresh Start. For added oomph, use a clarifying shampoo once a week to remove weighty product buildup.

Smooth
For frizz-free strands, ATL-based stylist Carlos Lissimore suggests working a dime-size amount ofAwapuhi Wild Ginger Shine SpraySupershine Moisturizing Cream into towel-dried hair to calm unruly strands before blow-drying with a large round brush, making sure to point the dryer nozzle downward (moving the dryer in all directions lifts the hair cuticle and causes frizz). Soften ends with a moisturizing oil like Weleda Rosemary Hair Oil and finish with an anti-humidity hairspray such as Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine. In a rush? Here’s a simple solution for static-free texture: “Comb damp hair into a loose bun and let it air dry. That will tame frizz and create a soft wave,” Snyder says.

Shiny
Despite the matte-hair trend, shine is still on the most-wanted list. To get mega-gloss, celebrity stylist Carlos Lissimore recommends starting with a vitamin- and protein-rich shampoo and conditioner (try the Pantene Restore Beautiful Length Shine Enhance duo), running a comb through hair to coat each strand. After towel drying, apply a leave-in conditioner (we like Davines Glorifying spray) to protect against heat damage. Blow-dry, again positioning the nozzle down. Finish with a blast of cold air, then a glossy mist such as Awapuhi Wild Ginger Shine Spray. For a weekly boost, try an at-home gloss treatment

Summer’s here and we can’t help but be entranced by warm weather’s siren song and the imminent arrival of new summer hair color trends.

In theory, there are a ton of shades to choose from, but in practice, this really means variations on blonde, red, black, and brunette. (And realistically, you have to take into account your skin tone such as peach, olive, cream tones before making a dramatic color change.)

In terms of trends, ombre and balayage were two of last year’s hair color bywords, and they’re back for 2011, but with a fresh, toned-down take. And don’t forget that your hair texture plays a role in hair color, too.

According to colorist Carlos Lissimore, if you have very textured or curly hair, highlights become more noticeable and can look stripy, so think strategically about where to place your highlights—subtly around the face is best. If you want to change your hue, lift your hair color one or two shades for an overall sense of vibrance. Whether you’re going back to basics or flipping the switch on your natural shade, here’s how to revamp your locks by adding blonde, brunette, or red in a fresh way.

Lighten Up: Want to go blonde for spring? Say goodbye to platinum locks and hello to luxurious gold

If Your Hair is Fine & Frizzy
1. Use a moisturizing shampoo to help hydrate hair and calm frizz.
2. Apply conditioner from the mid-shaft to the ends to seal the cuticle and hydrate hair .
3. Towel-dry, then apply a lightweight mousse from roots to ends to increase volume.
4. Split hair into three sections (back: hair near the nape of neck; center: ear to ear; top: temple to temple).
5. Blow-dry the back section first with a large round brush (use one with both boar and nylon bristles to help smooth hair while adding volume). Guide the brush and the nozzle of your blow dryer from roots to ends to get the cuticle to lie flat. Repeat these steps for the other two sections.

No, No, No! Stay away from sticky hairsprays—they’re too drying for fine hair. Also, wash your hair every other day so you don’t deplete natural oils that fight frizz.

Pro Tip: To restore volume and make a blowout last longer, sleep with hair in a high, loose bun. In the morning, release the bun and shake out hair with fingers.

If Your Hair is Thin & Flat
1. Begin in the shower by washing with a volume-enhancing shampoo.
2. Apply a small amount of conditioner to just the ends so hair won’t get weighed down—especially at the roots, where you need lift.
3. On towel-dried hair, apply a volumizing spray along the roots at the crown of your head.
4. Flip your hair over and apply a texturizing spray to just the ends.
5. Blow-dry while your head is upside down and work your fingers from back to front, gently massaging the roots. when your hair is completely dry, flip it back over and use your hands to help shake up hair and create a piecey style.

No, No, No! Too much pomade or conditioner can make fine hair look greasy fast.

Pro Tip: Keep a travel size can of hairspray in your bag to quickly perk up limp hair and absorb scalp oil.

If Your Hair is Coarse & Curly
1. Wash with a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner (sulfates can strip hair of natural moisturizing oils).
2. Nourish and hydrate hair by applying a generous amount of leave-in conditioner to hair.
3. Using a wide-tooth comb, work the conditioner from roots to ends.
4. Divide damp hair into several small sections, and finger-comb a hydrating styling cream through to fight frizz while hair air-dries.

No, No, No! Steer clear of any styling products that can cause curly hair to dry out and frizz quickly, like alcohol-based sprays and heated styling tools.

Pro Tip: To boost the health of curly hair, look for products that contain aloe vera (promotes healthy hair growth), panthenol (vitamin B5, which improves elasticity) and silk protein (penetrates the hair shaft and strengthens hair).

All seasons have their unique style, technique and type of makeup that may look out of place in other climatic and weather conditions. Winter makeup may look and prove very laughable and difficult to manage during the monsoons while makeup for summers may leave a person looking quite pale and colorless in a Christmas party! This section has come up with some very handy tips to apply appropriate makeup and look pretty in all seasons. Simple skin care can also keep you free of many worries such as dry and cracked lips. Use a bit of petroleum jelly and a soft bristle toothbrush to exfoliate any dead skin from the lips. Apply vitamin E oil over them to make them look soft and kissable. Vitamin E oil is good for your nails, hair and skin in general too.

Acne is a common problem in summer, especially for people with oily skin. However, they can be easily treated too. Mix one spoon of sea salt in 4 ounces of warm water and use the solution to clean the area and cover it for 2 to 3 minutes using a cotton ball twice or thrice. Then pat the area dry. Sexy beach girls on screen always have beautiful lustrous hair that you think is impossible with all that sun, sand, wind and salt. Well, here is the trick. Braid your hair in as many parts as you want depending how many waves and curls you want. Then, go for a swim in the ocean and let them dry in the breeze naturally. Open up the braids and run your fingers through hair for the beautiful look. Champagne rinse plays up blonde highlights while beer conditioning adds shine to hair. So, now you know all those bottles are not only for drinking and having fun.

Thin slices of lemon in a tub of warm water remove dead skin, help in cleansing, hydrates skin and give you a wonderful citrus aroma. Baking soda absorbs excess moisture and works as an excellent deodorant. Body moisturizers with shimmer and tanning lotions are great for showing off your beautiful legs on beach. Summer and hot weather means more skin on the show and greater use of body makeup such as tanning powder and lotions that make arms, legs and shoulders look more athletic and sexy. These are also great for covering up any freckles or skin imperfection when going for bolder fashions. Winter is the best loved season by all women for there is no more need to worry about sweat smudging our carefully applied makeup and also allows us to go for a lot more brighter colors and fashions we have always wanted to play with. The color range is largest for cold chilly winters ranging from neutrals such as white, light grays to charcoal gray, black, taupe, navy, true blue, royal blue, turquoise, royal purple, true green, emerald green, pine green, hot pink, magenta, fuchsia, burgundy, blue-red, true-red and icy colors such as icy green, icy yellow, icy aqua, icy violet, icy pink and icy blue. Silver jewelry looks best in winters.

Monsoon Makeup
In monsoons, dense makeup has a risk of being smudged and washed out severely and so light and sheer makeup is more advisable. Use waterproof mascara, transfer-resistant lipsticks and waterproof liners and may even use waterproof foundation, if it is a must for you.

Summer Makeup
Summer is the time to give your body the healthy tan and protect it from the horrors of sunburn, baked and dry lips and even sun-scorched skin cancer! There are some makeup disasters that can happen in summer sun and a relaxing beach noon that we do not pay adequate attention too.

Winter Makeup
There are so many people who dread winter for the mere reason that it brings a challenge to maintaining healthy and well-moisturizer skin. Extra care and attention is needed during the winter season, because during the cold months, the oil glands situated just below the surface of the skin tend to become relatively inactive and produce less moisture than usual.

Hair Coloring Forecasts
Carlos Lissimore Hairdesigner/Makeup Artist In Atlanta predicts that the trend in hair colors is moving away from dramatic color and back towards more natural colors and highlighting techniques. Yet, not everyone wants to blend into the crowd. Make your personality your first consideration in choosing a hair color or hair coloring technique that’s a perfect fit for you.

Are you sweet or saucy?

Do you like to stay “in style” with the season or are you a rebel?

Are you after the avant-garde or do you prefer traditional hair colors and techniques?

Are you comfortable in the spotlight or would you rather sit in the audience?

What hair color or technique really catches your eye and do you want to be caught up in it?

Sweet and Saucy
Highlight straight dark hair with a top layer of light-colored curls or curls in untraditional colors. Reverse the colors for a bolder, saucier look.

Seasonal Hair Color Changes
Fall and spring seem to be the most frequent times for hair color changes. In the autumn, we often make a change in hair color or style to forestall the winter doldrums. Then, the very freshness of spring encourages us to recreate a new image for ourselves.

Although we like to blame the sun for fading hair colors, as well as summer sun-fade, hard water and harsh hair care products can dull hair color over fall and winter. Spring is a great time to highlight hair with low-lights. Low-lights darken sections of your hair and make natural hair highlights sparkle in the summer sun.

Keeping Hair Color in Character
In the movie Steel Magnolias, Sally Fields remarks that her hair looks like a football helmet. If you’re wearing a helmet, put some kick into your simple do with hair color spice that compliments your skin tone and brings out the best in your facial features.

Foiling with three or four tones adds dimension to simple hairstyles. Blend a rich color like eggplant, burgundy, or bright red with lighter hair coloring highlights to effect a dramatic change without being overly emotive.

Hair Color in the Spotlight
One-tone hair colors are making a comeback. When you want to make a striking change, consider coloring your hair jet black, going platinum, becoming a real redhead, or really going for the gold, bronze, silver, blue etc.

If you’re not ready to plunge whole head into color, add a flash of color up front with bold colored bangs or make your personal color statement with just a tone or two to give your hair a hint of extraordinary color. Deeper colors add sizzle to dark hair and blonde colors, from ash to honey, add fire to lighter colored hair.

Whatever hair color trends catch your eye, the diversity in modern hair colors and hair coloring techniques leave you with plenty of hair color ideas to shape your hairstyle and your image.
